last night
From a photo I found on tumblr, still working on it, but I'm happy with this wip shot. With my current studies, I'm working not only on accuracy of form and lighting, but on technique and style. In this I am working on refining the gesture of the stroke, pushing myself to not just copy my reference, but interpret it, design it, so that it "matches" but still has a unique quality, whatever the content may be.

Brutus Armor Ideation Pages
Above is a series of cuirass variations, designed to be worn over Brutus' uniform, based on a typical roman cuirass silhouette accented by elements drawn from the armor of the Winged Hussars (Ukraine). Because of the modern yet mythical world the character exists in, I have chosen not to armor him with a full suit of plate-armor. His mobility and modernity is key, which still hearkening back to the classical Roman era in which the character originally lived.
Below are sigil designs, based on variations of "Brutus", "Marcus Brutus", and "KGB" which will be painted or magically inscribed on his armor as a sort of "scarlet letter", an irrevocably outward yet decidedly mystical display of his failings as a patriot and confidant.

Tilda Swinton study
I am going to move on to speed painting because, while I enjoy working on a painting until I feel like it's finished, it isn't the most efficient way to study. But, I have reached a level with Tilda Swinton that I am, for the moment, content enough with to move on from.

Final painting
I have to stop now before I destroy the likeness of Benedict's enigmatic face by overworking it. Next on my studies-to-do list is Tilda Swinton, an equally alien-like actor. Lately I've found myself more interested in unconventionally attractive people. Studying their faces certainly makes for a more challenging and rewarding learning experience. I also found the coolness of the palette to be challenging and intriguing. It was quite fun all the way through, but probably the most difficult likeness I've ever attempted to capture.

Spring Break Project
Working on a small personal modeling and texturing project during break. I haven't shared much of my 3D work this term, or really any of it, because of the introductory nature of my classes and my amateur grasp of the software. However, I'd like to share some rough block ins, just mapping out the proportions and basic shapes of the objects I'm attempting to model at the moment. The first half of the project is the vajra, or dorje (རྡོ་རྗེ) in Tibetan. The other half of the project will be the bell (dril bu). Together the two objects are used in high Vajrayana rituals in Tibetan Buddhism.

Cossack Final Pose

My teacher had nothing but praise for my assignment this week! Always a good feeling! Here it is, along with the gesture studies I did in preparation for it:
